Midwest Weigh-In  August 2009

August, 2009

The 20 Midwest “Scalies” who ventured to Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 29th had a wonderful day examining Bob Jibben’s extensive scale collection.  Although EGG SCALES and GRAIN SCALES are dominant, Bob has many rare and one of a kind examples of other types of scales.  I hope everyone visited the living room to see his 3 beautiful Ladder Scales.

Scale sales didn’t appear to be brisk even though I saw many people peering into “open car trunks” looking for that one scale that has eluded them.  The Bernings, Jaap Vissor (James Reeve as his agent), James Reeve and Don Schoenly also had scales for sale in the basement next to the Museum.

The lunch menu was definitely not Midwest cuisine.  Instead “Buffalo Burgers” was the featured item and WOW were they good!  Other homemade goodies were consumed and desert was none other than Bob’s famous homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Many thanks to Bob and Mary Jibben for their hospitality and for giving us the opportunity to see a magnificent scale collection.  Next year the Weigh-In will be at Jan and Bill Berning’s in Sycamore, Illinois.  Date to be announced at a later time.

Until next time, keep looking and buying.
